Manuel (Manny) Cabrera is a Strength & Conditioning coach and Kinesiologist, with a specialty in exercise physiology. He achieved his Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay Ontario and continued on to get his Masters of Kinesiology (Performance and Coaching Sciences) at UBC.
Manny has been involved with strength training for over 15 years. Initially, he started off with coaching strength training for sports like Rugby, powerlifting, and endurance running, but eventually expanded and grew into coaching a variety of field, gravity, and mountain sports. During his time completing his masters, Manny coached a variety of varsity teams including rugby, rowing, football, swimming, and basketball. Additionally, Manny has coached adaptive athletes, high performance rock climbers and competitive Olympic Weightlifters. He did this while working alongside health and athletic teams like physiotherapists, athletic trainers, and chiropractors. His education has also taken him to work with the Canadian Sport Institute, Whistler. Completing maximal and anthropometric testing on high performance athletes alongside exercise physiologists, strength and conditioning coaches and dieticians. Manny has also worked directly with oncology patients and patients with mental diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, post-concussions, aneurysm’s, and post-stroke.
Manny supports each athlete and rehab client by first taking objective data, setting SMART goals with them, and carefully tracking progress to ensure each person he works with continues down a path of success. He believes in creating an athlete/client-centred environment that supports growth and change for these people. In his spare time, he loves to spend his time rock climbing, trail running and Olympic weightlifting.
